Helping a Client Stay Independent at Home
A repeat client called me back recently. I had helped her before by installing a security camera in her apartment through Tech Assist For Seniors, so I was already familiar with her setup and routine.
When I arrived, she had something new she needed help with. It sounded simple at first, but it turned into something much more meaningful.
A Simple Task That Wasn’t So Simple
She wanted to order groceries online. The challenge was that she does not have a smartphone, which many grocery services expect you to use.
On top of that, she uses a walker. Going to the store is not easy, and it takes a lot of effort just to get around. Shopping in person had become more stressful than helpful.
Finding a Way That Works
We sat down together at her computer and went to the Publix website. I walked her through each step slowly so she could follow along and understand what was happening.
We added items to the cart, chose a delivery time, and completed the order. Nothing complicated, just simple steps done at a pace that made sense for her.
A Small Change That Meant a Lot
Once everything was set up, it really clicked for her. She realized she could have groceries delivered right to her apartment without needing to go out.
She told me it was a life changer. Not having to deal with the physical effort of shopping made a big difference for her day-to-day life.
While I Was There
Since I was already there, we also spent some time going over her security camera. I showed her how to look back at past events so she could check activity when she was not home.
It was a good reminder that sometimes people just need a quick refresher to feel confident using something they already have.
Why I Do This
Moments like this are why I enjoy the work that I do. It is not just about fixing a device or setting something up. It is about helping someone stay comfortable and independent in their own home.
A lot of the work I share on my About page and Connect page comes back to that same idea. Small tech wins can remove stress and make everyday life feel more manageable.
What Most People Overlook
A lot of services today assume everyone has a smartphone and knows how to use apps. That is not always the case, especially for older adults.
The gap is not the technology itself. The gap is having someone there to guide you through it in a way that makes sense.
One Visit Can Change a Lot
This visit was not just about ordering groceries. It gave her an easier way to handle something she needs every week.
